Emergency Calendar (eCal) allows users to create and display shift calendars commonly used by fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS). The application was developed to offer a user-friendly experience for easy personalization of shift schedules, whether it follows a 2/4, 4/6, 48/96 or any other Platoon/Kelly combination.

The creation of custom schedules in Emergency Calendar is based on the unique repeating pattern specific to each schedule format. It is crucial for users to include only one complete Rotation/Cycle when setting up their calendar to accurately reflect their work schedule.

IMPORTANT:

  • The Emergency Calendar customizes any Kelly/Platoon schedule based on the specific rotation pattern. Users must include one complete Rotation/Cycle while setting up their calendars.
  • Examples: 2/4 Kelly = 12-day Rotation/Cycle, 3/4 Kelly = 9-day Rotation/Cycle, 4/6 Kelly = 24-day Rotation/Cycle, 48/96 Platoon = 6-day Rotation/Cycle.
  • Please refrain from attempting to schedule by week or month as it does not align with the pattern that defines each schedule.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. MAIN SCREEN: To access the EDIT CALENDARS view, tap on the third button at the screen's bottom to display a list of pre-existing calendars.
  2. EDIT / ADD CALENDARS: Users can delete or rearrange calendars by dragging them or select them for editing. To add a new calendar, click on the ADD CALENDAR button at the bottom right.
  3. ADD / CREATE A NEW CALENDAR: Begin by entering the calendar NAME in the top field and customize the schedule. Select the START button and choose the start date of the first day of a cycle. Then select the END button and click on the last date of one cycle.

Once dates are selected, use color coding to mark shift types and save the calendar. The new calendar will appear in the list, accessible by clicking VIEW CALENDARS. The customized schedule will be displayed throughout the calendar.

The app is based on a modified version of kCalendar, an open-source resource available for free use. Find out more about kCalendar and its applications at kCalendar.
